The Tory MP blames “far too many overpaid and utterly useless senior managers”.

The government can’t be blamed for the current “shambles of the NHS”, according to an MP.

Shipley constituent, author and journalist Linda Green wrote to her MP, raising concerns about the current state of the NHS and the issues it faces.

Philip Davies MP wrote back, deferring the blame onto “far too many overpaid and utterly useless senior managers”, claiming the “government do not run the NHS”.

In the response, Mr Davies proclaims, “I agree with you about the shambles of the NHS. However, this is not a problem created by the government.

“The government do not run the NHS – that is done by NHS England and by individual NHS trusts. The government’s job is to fund the NHS.”

Speaking about the day-to-day management of the NHS, Mr Davies rants, describing the health service as “wasteful” and “bureaucratic”.

Wasteful for bureaucratic.

He continues, “The problem is that the NHS is appallingly run with far too many overpaid and utterly useless senior managers who wouldn’t be able to get a similar job in the private sector.

“The NHS is wasteful, bureaucratic and run for the convenience of people who work in the NHS (especially consultants and GPs) rather than for the benefit of the patients – one only has to see the tragically low staffing levels at weekends compared to the rest of the week to see that. I should also say that there are more nurses and doctors as a proportion of the population in the NHS than ever before.

Before concluding, “I am afraid that until people accept that the NHS is inadequate, badly run and in dire need of reform things will never improve, and whilst ever people just say it needs more and more and more money (irrespective of how it is wasted) and do not demand the money is spent more wisely then things will never get better.”

Mr Davies is one of several Yorkshire MPs who has racked up nearly £3 million in additional income, according to an analysis between Sky News and the news website Tortoise.
