Nursing staff across England are also preparing to vote again on potential further strike action.

Junior doctors are to take strike action again next month after a “paltry” pay offer from the government.

In response to a 5% pay offer by the government, the British Medical Association (BMA) have announced a further full 72-hour walkout of all junior doctors in England.

It will take place between 7 am on 14 June and 7 am on 17 June 2023.

During this period all doctors other than Consultants and so-called SAS doctors will take industrial action across the board, withdrawing all care for the 72-hour period.

In contrast to the offer in England, junior doctors in Scotland have been offered a 14.5% pay rise over two years.

Nursing staff across England are also preparing to vote again on potential further strike action after rejecting the same offer.

Striking throughout the summer.

The BMA claim talks “have now reached a stage where they are currently unproductive”. The union is also preparing to re-ballot their members so strike action can continue after August.

Dr Vivek Trivedi and Dr Robert Laurenson, co-chairs of the BMA Junior Doctors Committee, warned “if the government doesn’t change their position, we will strike throughout the summer.

“This means we will call a minimum of three days of action every month for the duration of our mandate for industrial action.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Care said it is “both surprising and deeply disappointing” that further action has been declared “while constructive talks were ongoing”.

The BMA say they have had a 26% real-terms salary cut over the past 15 years and “deserve full pay restoration now”.
