Royal College of Nursing members will strike again on 18 and 19 January 2023.
The Royal College of Nursing has announced two further strike dates for January after the government has failed to enter pay negotiations.
Unless negotiations are opened, RCN members will strike again on 18 and 19 January 2023.
The action will take place at more NHS employers in England than happened this month – increasing from 44 to 55 trusts. RCN members in Wales and Northern Ireland will not be striking. Scotland is on track to announce its dates in the new year. A full list of trusts is available below.
According to unions, Health Secretary Steve Barclay has so far refused to even discuss NHS pay despite insisting his “door remains open”.
However, a source close to Mr Barclay suggested this week that he could offer to bring forward next year’s annual pay rise in return for a calling off industrial action.

The RCN claims the Exchequer would recoup 81% of the initial outlay of a significant pay rise in terms of higher tax receipts and savings on future recruitment and retention costs.
RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive, Pat Cullen, said: “The Government had the opportunity to end this dispute before Christmas but instead they have chosen to push nursing staff out into the cold again in January. I do not wish to prolong this dispute but the Prime Minister has left us with no choice.
“The public support has been heart-warming and I am more convinced than ever that this is the right thing to do for patients and the future of the NHS.
“The voice of nursing will not be ignored. Staff shortages and low pay make patient care unsafe – the sooner ministers come to the negotiating table, the sooner this can be resolved. I will not dig in, if they don’t dig in.”
